In the often stuffy world of Formula One, Circuit of the Americas is shedding a playful light on the sport with a new promotional video released Friday.

It’s an interesting new way to try to sell tickets, showing “drivers” discussing the excitement around the event, which will include major concerts by Justin Timberlake on Oct. 21 and Stevie Wonder on Oct. 22.
COTA chairman Bobby Epstein told the American-Statesman recently that ticket sales are “running ahead of last year,” when the Austin track reported a record attendance of 269,889.
The video also covers early bird pricing, available through the end of July, offering three-day general admission tickets for $159.
COTA also has brought back its unique rain guarantee: Should more than 2 inches fall in the 24-hour period before the start of the Oct. 22 race, the track will refund 105 percent of the value of the ticket for any fan who purchased a three-day weekend pass before Aug. 1. Those fans also will have their tickets honored and can attend the race.
The video seems to work with Formula One’s new American owners, Liberty Media, taking a fresh approach to promoting and running the sport.
