On Tuesday nights, bikers and cycling enthusiasts can test Circuit of the Americas at a leisurely pace and then eat and drink at the race track afterward. CRedit: JAY JANNER / AMERICAN-STATESMAN

Circuit of the Americas is open for business tonight and every Tuesday night for the next 10 weeks for anyone who wants to go biking.

That’s right, you’ll be able to take your thin wheels out on America’s only Formula One track to see what it’s like.

“We realize there are many eager amateurs in town looking for places to ride without being exposed to the daily Austin-area traffic,” said Katja Heim, COTA’s chief operating officer. “We’ve already gotten a lot of response and hundreds have signed up to ride here.”

The race track will be open from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each Tuesday evening for biking. This will be free-form riding at a person’s own pace, not competitive racing.

To participate, riders must register online at www.bikereg.com/tuesday-nighter-week-1 or on site at COTA. All riders must have a helmet.

Bikers will ride the 3.4-mile, 20-turn circuit clockwise.

Registration costs $10 online, $20 on-site or $65 for the entire 10-week package. Bike rentals will be available.

The picnicking and cafeteria areas at the track will be open from 5 to 10 p.m., and a beer garden will offer post-biking adult beverages.

“We’ve really improved the quality of our food service and are hoping people give that a try,” Heim said.
