Jorge Martin flashed the fastest times in Moto3 all weekend at Circuit of the Americas, and he turned that into victory Sunday in the race.
The Spaniard, on board the No. 88 Del Conca Gresini Honda, toured the 17 laps in 39 minutes, 12.869 seconds. That was nearly 1.5 seconds faster than Enea Bastianini, who took second in his No. 33 Leopard Racing Honda.
“It was an amazing race,” said Martin, who notched his second win in three races this season. “It was hard at the beginning of the race because I had the hard tire. Then the others started to slow down.
“Enea was fast but I gave my 100 percent, and this victory is really important to me.”
Bastianini said, “Martin was so fast today in the first and second sector. I tried to reduce the gap, but it was impossible.”
Marco Bezzecchi, on the No. 12 Redox Pruestel KTM, took third.
“The race was incredibly difficult because I chose the ‘M’ tire,” he said. “(Fabio) Di Giannantonio tried to pass me at the end, but he went wide and I could pass him back before the finish line for the podium.”
